Leonard “Bub” L. Wolfe, 86, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Jordan Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Bub was born February 1, 1936, in Des Moines to Everett and Antonia (Turk) Wolfe. He grew up in West Des Moines and was an alumni of Valley High School class of 1954. Bub formed his work ethic while working for Dale “Whitey” Carlisle, Wendell Smith, Bill Bryant, and eventually himself. He was a trapper in his youth and liked to hunt deer and game birds. Bub also tried his hand at fishing from Canada to the shores of Florida. He liked golf and played in a foursome for many years and even had one questionable hole-in-one! Bub would play the ponies at Prairie Meadows but here’s a tip; never let him carry out your bet. He had traveled as far west as Arizona and to the Gulf Coast to visit family. Bub kept the local roads hot to visit old friends and numerous other locations around the state putting over 440,000 miles on his truck. He never let facts get in the way of a good yarn!
He is survived by his son, James Kirby of West Des Moines; brothers, Everett and Rex (Kathy) both of Cumming; five nephews; three nieces; ex-wife, Diane Stroud Wolfe; stepsons, Brent and Eric Stroud; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Maxine Wolfe; sons, Randy, Lane and Troy; ex-wife, Doris (Lillegard) Wolfe; sisters, Delores Madison and Leona Carroll; niece, Farren Carroll; stepsons, Steve and Scott Stroud.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa or JDRF Greater Iowa Chapter.
