Patricia “Pat” Miller, 91, died January 9, 2015 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at McLaren’s Chapel, 801-19th St. in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the Chapel. Burial will be at the Resthaven Mausoleum following the service.
Pat was born in Wolbach, NE on May 15, 1923 to Gertrude and Peter Jensen. She left her parent’s farm at an early age and moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she met the love of her life, John P. Miller Sr. John and Pat were married April 17, 1943. They moved to Des Moines, IA in 1949, where Pat began her career as a nurse at Wilden Clinic. After moving to St. Louis for two years and then returning to Des Moines she became a full-time homemaker, raising three children and later focused on being a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
Pat loved fishing at their cabin in Minnesota, working in her yard, and making hand embroidered quilt blocks, which she finished into beautiful quilts for every family member.
She is survived by her daughters, Roberta Riddle and Dr. Georgianne (Robert) Peterson; son, John P. Jr. (Sheryl) Miller; grandchildren, James (October) Riddle, Dr. Dawn (Dr. Gregory) O’Donnell, Dr. Jennifer Peterson (Dr. J. Eric Jelovsek), Melissa (Timothy) Miller, Maj. John P. III (Mollie) Miller, Matthew (Sarah) Miller; and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Buster Jensen and Mary (Joe) Nerly; and several nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Serena Krammer and Elaine Quirk; and son-in-law, Larry Riddle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. The family wishes to thank Unity Point Hospice and Ramsey Village for their excellent care.
