Des Moines
Patricia (Van Gilder) Payne, 83, passed away on March 24, 2013. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines immediately followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Pat was born on November 14, 1929 to "Dutch" and Helen Van Gilder. She grew up in Norwalk and moved to Des Moines after marrying Harold Payne on October 1, 1949. She liked being employed as a cafeteria worker for Des Moines Public Schools, at Barbara's Bake Shop, Cracker Barrel, and volunteering at the Botanical Center. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, and being a member of the Eastern Star, Goodwill Chapter 537 in Norwalk.
She is survived by her son, David (Kate) Payne; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Peterson; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents; and sister, Betty.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden or Eastern Star, Chapter 537 in Norwalk.
