Peggy June (Cooperider) Lemons, 91, passed away peacefully October 10, 2013 in Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 14 at Windsor Presbyterian Church in Windsor Heights with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines.
Peggy was born June 20, 1922 to Noel L. and Elizabeth “Bess” June (Johnston) Cooperider in Kansas City, MO. She was raised and educated in Kansas City, graduating from Southeast High School and Miss Huff Business School. She married John Alexander Lemons October 5, 1945. They moved to Des Moines in 1955 where they raised 5 children. She was a member of Windsor Presbyterian Church. Peggy had several careers and was a stay at home mom in between. She started during WWII, working with TWA, Mister Donut and retiring from Principal Financial in 1984. After retirement she kept busy volunteering, most notably for Windsor Elementary School. Peggy was known for her seamstress skills, baking, decorative mints, being active in children's activities and her selfless attitude.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Judine (Walt) Pattinson and Jean Page; sons, James (Barb) Lemons, Jeff (Rachel) Lemons and Glenn (Lori) Lemons; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Thorp; brother, Tom Cooperider; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Noel “Bud” Cooperider; husband, John A. Lemons; granddaughter, Sheryl N. Lockridge; and son-in-law, Tom A. Page.
