Richard, 79, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Prairie Meadows event rooms Skinner C directly inside The Meadows entrance.
Richard was born March 11, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Arthur and Clarice (Martell) Overton. Richard joined the U. S. Army, 10th Infantry Division in 1953 and was stationed in Germany and Austria. Richard spent most of his career as a heavy equipment operator working at numerous construction sites throughout the city and state. He enjoyed playing cards, including cribbage and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Giants and NASCAR.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Overton of Des Moines; son, Michael Overton of New York City and two brothers, John R. Overton of Texas and Robert Overton of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Anne Robertson.
