Robert L. Gustafson

Robert L. Gustafson, 74, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at his home in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in West Des Moines with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Robert was born April 7, 1943 in Moline, IL to Elmer and Jean (Morrison) Gustafson. He graduated from Scott County Community College in Davenport, IA in 1963 with an Associate Degree in Computer Technology. Robert married Rita Mae Peterson on October 17, 1964 in Andover, IL. He was a computer technician for Univac and Mercy Hospital. Robert was an assistant troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America, a volunteer fire fighter for the Windsor Heights Fire Department and girls soccer coach for the West Des Moines Soccer Club. He enjoyed vintage tractors, traveling, woodworking, cruises, card club (500) and spending time with his family.

Robert is survived by his wife, Rita; four children, Carmen Gustafson, Todd Gustafson, Joann Thomas and Brian Gustafson; brother, Roy (Jan) Gustafson; and two nephews, Alex (Lindsey) Gustafson and Michael (Chelsea) Gustafson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Mike Thomas.
