Ron lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, January 3, 2015. A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m., Saturday January 10, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines followed by a reception and lunch. A private family inurnment will be held in Resthaven Mausoleum.
Ron was born May 23, l937 to Bert and Edith (Sims) Lauen in Fort Dodge, Iowa and spent his early years in Pocahontas, Iowa. In 1959, he graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in journalism. After serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, he worked for manufacturers and ad agencies in Milwaukee, Detroit, and Evansville, Indiana before returning to Des Moines in 1974. In Des Moines, he was employed by the Lord, Sullivan, and Yoder Advertising Agency. He was a member of Gyro International and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Ron enjoyed bike riding, travel, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife, Molly; son, Mark (Kathy) Lauen of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Nancy (Jim) Thomas of Lincolnshire, Illinois; sister, Shirlee (Rod) Dense of Davenport, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Haylie, Parker and Chase Lauen, and Carly and Joey Thomas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John Stoddard Cancer Center at Methodist Hospital or to Hospice of Central Iowa.
