Sharon worked for the Des Moines Public Schools for 23 years. Sharon worked in the lunchroom and enjoyed interacting with the students daily, as well as eating the school lunches with her co-workers. She often brought us home the extra cookies to enjoy for our after-school snack!
Sharon was a nurturer, a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She gave of herself effortlessly and consistently, always putting the wants and needs of her family before her own. There isn't a kinder, more loving soul on the planet. Mom would listen to your problems with tears in her eyes, even if the situation was resolved and you were fine. She never wanted anyone she loved to be upset, sad or struggling in any way. Mom looked to God for all answers and prayed for us all every day. She followed God through life, always putting him first and making sure her kids and grandkids knew the Lord and leaned on him as well. She loved the years that her grandson, Gary, went with her to church on Sundays and she stood by his side when he was baptized.
She led by example and although we could only strive to be as loving and caring and thoughtful as she was, we picked up a lot of her nurturing ways and passed them along to our babies. Mom always wanted us to know how much she loved us and how much we mean to her and she would show us with her home cooked meals, her beautiful handwritten letters and her thoughtful gestures such as leaving cookies and a card for her granddaughter, Shyla and great-granddaughters Tamia and Tiana, letting them know how much she loves them and misses them during Covid and how she can't wait to see them again. She would never miss a concert, ball game or performance of her children or grandchildren growing up. She was always as excited about the event as we were, especially the Christmas Concerts! She had a blast exercising with her granddaughters Shayla and Shyla to Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies when they were younger. Their favorite part was when they played Ain't no mountain high enough at the end.
Sharon was a loving wife to her husband Rich, and through many many years, they enjoyed each and every day together. One of their favorite things to do was to attend Iowa Football Games and take advantage of the season tickets their loving daughter Cyndie brought them every year. They loved the Hawkeyes, and they loved spending time with their daughter, so those trips meant the world to them.
Sharon also loved nature, and her favorite flower is Roses. She also loves bird houses and butterflies. Her favorite singer was Elvis Presley as well as Barry Manilow and Kenny Rogers.
God gained a true Angel and although we will miss her every single day, we have peace in knowing she is with the Lord now. Rest peacefully Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and most of all Wife. We Love You and Cherish You. Thank you for loving us so much and allowing us to experience your love.
A celebration of life for Sharon will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McLaren’s Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.
