Toni D. Bernholtz

Des Moines Toni Diane Bernholtz, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 23, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Toni was born in Isle, MN on July 29, 1942 to DeWayne and Rubye (Howser) Sowers and attended North High School in Des Moines. Toni was a musician for over 50 years, playing bass and vocals of which she loved. She spent decades playing in local bands with many family members and friends. She was a dog breeder and trainer that competed in dog shows and loved horses and even owned a couple. She loved camping, fishing, and spending time with her family. Toni had a huge heart and would help or do anything for anyone or any animal. Her garden was her pride and joy and spent many years working on it. Toni is survived by her husband, Paul; four sons, Larry, Greg and Kevin Groomes and John Miceli; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Dixie Sowers; and step-sister, Becki Propst. She was preceded in death by many family members. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
