Bill Rhiner, 73, got his ticket out of this life and onto the next at 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at his home near Adel, IA surrounded by family and friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 at McLaren’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Bill was born July 25, 1943 in Des Moines, IA to Roy and Iola Rhiner. He married his lifelong love, Dixie Stoddard, in Des Moines 55 years ago.
Bill started working for his father and uncle at Rhiner Brothers Plumbing Company at the age of 17. He built on that family tradition with Bill Rhiner’s Plumbing Company, which continues today as a family run operation that has been in the Rhiner family since 1901.
Whether socializing with friends and family, traveling or enjoying horse racing, Bill was always the life of the party. His generosity to many causes and individuals was legendary. Bill truly will be missed by all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dixie, two daughters, Deborah and Christine (Randall Biederman) and one grandson, Austin, all of Adel; two sisters, Sandra Rhiner of Norwalk and Peggy Lansack of West Des Moines; and his beloved dog, Sammy. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Don Rhiner; and one sister, Phyllis Bishop.
Memorials will be established in Bill’s honor at AHeinz57 Pet and Rescue and Transport, Adel Library or the Young Women’s Resource Center.
The family wants to thank their many friends who helped with Bill’s care, including Dr. Kevin Cunningham, Dr. Katrina Guest, Dr. Pamela Nerheim and the UnityPoint at Home Hospice.
