William P. “Bill” Shaffer, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Karen Acres in Urbandale. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Bill was born on June 16, 1930 in St. Louis, MO to Clayton and Regina Shaffer. He served his country in the U.S. Marines. Bill and Jackie later settled in Iowa for Bill to work at Holmes Oldsmobile. He was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed cheering on his favorite team.
Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline Shaffer; children, Jeannine (Dave) Spurgin, Janet Shaffer, Joseph Shaffer, Stacey (Susan) Shaffer, Laura Shaffer, and Lisa (Clint) Cavanah; twelve grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Shaffer; and an infant sister.
