

Beatrice Emily Gomes, 86, of Harwich, MA and Summerfield FL died on July 7, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beatrice was the wife of the late Joseph “Lonesome” Gomes for 56 years until his passing. She was born in Harwich, MA on August 12, 1930 to the late Manuel Santos and Mary (Raneo) Santos.
Beatrice loved to collect pewter. Every wedding anniversary her husband Joe would add a piece of pewter to her collection. She loved travelling to Hawaii every year until Joe’s health failed. In her early years she loved sewing, needlepoint, and tole-painting. She also enjoyed long walks with her niece Helen.
Beatrice is survived by her daughter, Rosetta Gomes (Manuel) DaLomba of Summerfield, FL; her grandchildren Kristin Roderick (Jason) Hauf, Kenneth (Lori Beth) Roderick, and her great-granddaughter Josie Beckett. Hauf. She also leaves behind two very special people in her life, her niece Helen Souza and Gail Thomas. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Beatrice also leaves behind her extended family, the DaLomba’s.
Beatrice is predeceased by her parents, Manuel and Mary Santos; her siblings Frank Thatcher, Manuel Thatcher, Louise Grace, Rose Rose, Mary Gomes, Leah Pires, and Ruth Clay.
Beatrice’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff of Hospice of Marion County, South Team of Summerfield FL for their professional care and love. Thank you to the many doctors and nurses who helped in her care. Thank you to the staff at 3C’s for Elders in Summerfield, FL for caring for Beatrice during her final months with such love, care, and dignity.
Visiting hours will take place 10-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St. (Route 28), W.Harwich, MA 02671. A burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Harwich, MA.
