Brett Albert Bauer, 54, passed away December 29, 2015 after a brief battle with esophageal cancer surrounded by his loved ones. A father of two, brother of five and a beloved friend of many. A thirteenth generation Cape Codder, he was born to Frederick Bauer and Joan Foss of West Harwich. The youngest in a tight-knit family, he attended Harwich schools and lived and raised his family in Harwich as well. Brett is survived by his two sons, Cameron and Collin Bauer of Moncks Corner, SC, who were his greatest pride, his brothers, Brian Bauer of Somerville and Blair Bauer and his wife Susan of Sandwich, sisters Elizabeth Williams and her husband John of Brewster, Robin Shaw of Harwichport, and Kristen Squazzo and her husband Emil of Monument, CO, and three nephews and one niece.
Like his father and grandfather, he was a Mason and past Master at Pilgrim Lodge in Harwich Center and a member of Mount Horeb Lodge in S. Dennis. Also like his father, he was a mechanic. He owned Howard Imports in Brewster, fixing cars, making friends and telling great jokes. His love of cars was rivaled only by his love of boats. He could often be seen heading out from the dock off Bass River Bridge in his vintage 24-ft Lyman. Brett was also an accomplished drummer and often teamed up with his brother Blair and his best friends Jon Enslin and John Pells.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 4-8pm at Doane Beal & Ames, 260 Main St (Rt 28), W. Harwich. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 11am at the South Dennis Congregational Church, 218 Main St, S. Dennis. Please make donations in lieu of flowers to The Robert W. Johnson Benevolent Fund, 42 Wilma's Way, E. Harwich, MA 02645, which supported Brett’s medical expenses with a generous grant.
