

Edward "Eddie" Strout, a lifelong resident of Harwich, died suddenly March 24 surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Evelyn and Donald Strout, brother to the late Phyllis Wiacek, and Donna Smith and her husband Greg. Mr. Strout was a Army Staff Sargeant E6 during the Vietnam War and retired engineer. He received the Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, Army Commendation Medals, and was a rifle sharpshooter. He worked for his family's business, Cape Pump and Tank, and the Chuck Wagon.
He was preceded in death by his son, the late Willie Strout. Survived by two sons Mark and Christopher Welsh (his wife Claudia), and his daughter Megan Welsh. Also survied by nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Strout also leaves his dedicated friend and former wife, Bernice Lopes Rice.
Harwich's own legendary"Walking Man" will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services by Doan, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, Rt. 28, West Harwich. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Tuesday, March 29 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. Interment at the South Chatham Cemetery on Rt. 28, South Chatham.
