

Johnnie was born in Fall River, MA. He joined the US Army and served in World War II, in the European Theatre and the Battle of the Buldge.
He became a sports writer for Newark, NJ evening news in Woodbridge, NJ, his byline was “NOW HEAR THIS”. He received an award of excellence in 1981 from the New Jersey Sports Writer’s Association. He established Little League baseball and also helped form the first Elks Lodge. Johnnie played semi-pro football for the Golden Bears in Woodbridge, NJ. He was a member of the Lake Placid Bobsled Club, and the New Jersey Sportswriters’ Association.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 14th from 2pm-6pm at Doane Beal & Ames funeral home, 260 Main St., W. Harwich, MA 02671. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Monday Nov. 15th at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Rd., Brewster, MA. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
