On January 8th, Kent Whitcomb passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was diagnosed with cancer over three years ago and greatly surpassed his prognosis with the help of great doctors, constant positivity, and a strong support system.
Kent was born in Hackensack, NJ and was the eldest son of Squire and Hope Whitcomb. He attended Lynn English High School, then enlisted in the Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1960. Kent attended Wentworth Institute of Technology where he received an Associate's Degree in Electronics. Kent spent his entire career working for IBM, retiring after 30 years of service. Upon retirement Kent could not sit still so spent the next 20 years working construction.
Since his retirement he enjoyed being active in many volunteer organizations, including Cape Cod Hospital, the Red Cross, and Habitat for Humanity (for 25 years.) He was also a member of the Dennis Union Church where he served as a deacon and worked with the pick up crew and was a proud member of several AA groups.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to the beach, boating, planning vacations, and above all, helping anyone and everyone. He was a true lover of life, of his family, of chips and dip & baked potatoes, finding cheap gas, the New England Patriots, and anything Disney. Those that knew him describe him as instantly loveable, warm, generous, thoughtful, and incredibly goofy. He loved to make people laugh and his constant smile was one for the record books.
Kent is survived by his mother, Hope (Hedman) Whitcomb Cavendish of Harwichport, three daughters, Laura (Whitcomb) Linke of New Milford, CT, Lisa (Whitcomb) Rapalje of Scituate, MA and Amy Whitcomb of West Yarmouth, MA, a son, Scott Whitcomb of Holderness, NH, five grandchildren, Kathryn Linke, Michelle Linke, Gustav Whitcomb, Charlotte Mae Whitcomb and Hope Elizabeth Rapalje, a brother, Steven Whitcomb of Dennis, MA, a sister, Viki Storm of Conway, MA and many nieces and nephews.
