Mary Elizabeth Miles Williams

Mary Elizabeth Miles was born November 12, 1943 in Davis, West Virginia to Raymond and Joan Miles, the eldest of four children, followed by Raymond Jr., and the twins David and Dennis. As a military family, she experienced living abroad in the Netherlands and Taiwan. She graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in Dennis.

At 19 years, she married Roger Samuel Streitmatter, from Peoria, Illinois in 1964.They adopted Richard Alan from Vietnam in 1972, joined by Joseph Michael in 1976. Mary raised the children herself working at the Sword and Shield Restaurant in Harwich and for several decades as a Nurses Aide for the elderly. Musically she enjoyed Elvis, Kenny Rogers, and country music. She loved sunflowers and her favorite scent was honeysuckle. She baked traditional potica bread on the holidays for friends - a recipe passed through generations from her mother. She loved traveling with her friends abroad visiting Ireland and Vietnam, and made several trips with her family to Blackwater Falls in West Virginia and her brothers in Michigan. She was an independent, generous and loving woman giving all she had to her boys. She adored feeding the birds with her grandchildren. The sum of her life simply cannot be captured properly in this writing.

Mary died peacefully on December 15, 2022 with her family beside her. She is survived by her brothers Raymond and David Miles, her two sons, Richard and his wife Trang, and Joseph and his wife Christina, and her six grandchildren: Jayde, Jordyn, Jonah, Jakob, Bao My, and Ry An. She also leaves behind her lifelong close friends with whom they shared milestones and memories. Mary’s final resting place will be alongside her parents and brother Dennis on Cape Cod.

Her funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich on March 30th, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Visitation at the Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home - 260 Main St. (Rt. 28), West Harwich from 8:30 - 9:30 am. Burial will immediately follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
