Sally Margaret Devine

Sara (Sally) Margaret Devine, nee Hurley, of Harwich Port, formerly of Bellingham and Dorchester, MA passed peacefully under the extraordinary and compassionate care provided by the staff at Rosewood Manor on January 24th surrounded by her loving family. Sally was born in Cambridge, MA on October 26, 1936 of Christina “Ma” Hurley (Kearney) of Baltimore, Ireland and Jeremiah J. Hurley of Boston, MA. She attended Archbishop Cushing High School in South Boston, after which she worked for New England Telephone. In 1957, she married her childhood sweetheart since age 14, Donald Leo Devine. Together they raised six children.

Sally had a passion for music, which was a strong part of her Irish heritage. She learned to play the piano and sing from a young age. As a member of the St. Brendan’s Choir and the all-women singing group The Misty Mrs, she shared her love of music with everyone she met everywhere she went, with her family, friends, and often complete strangers if a certain song hit her fancy. Sally was a talented painter, voracious reader, an avid bowler, and lover of world-travel, a hobby to which she and her husband, Donald, dedicated much of their retirement. However, her biggest pride was her family, here in the US and in Ireland, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter on whom she doted.

She is survived by her husband of over 64 years Donald Leo Devine, her children Christine Devine of Strafford, NH, Kevin Devine of Marlborough, MA, Rita Horan and her husband Mark of North Attleboro, MA, Lawrence Devine of Bellingham, MA, Leo Devine of Boston, MA, and Carole Karlowicz and her husband Derek Karlowicz of Franklin, MA, as well as her grandchildren Sara Leveille (Matthew) of Milford, MA, Erin Horan of Lakewood, OH, Amy DiSalvo (Thomas) of Friendly, MD, Allyson O’Neill of Boston, MA, and Alexander and Aidan Karlowicz of Franklin, MA, and her great-granddaughter Millie DiSalvo of Friendly, MD.

Calling hours will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home on Sunday January 30th from 2 pm to 6 pm at 260 Main St, West Harwich, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich, MA on Monday, January 31st.
