HARWICH - Virginia M. Poore, 90, formerly of Arkansas City, Kansas and Anderson, Indiana, died peacefully at her home on January 15, 2014 after an extended illness.
She was the beloved widow of Roy D. Poore, loving mother of Dennis and Chris Poore (Coral Springs, FL), Richard and Vivian Poore (Ormond Beach, FL) and Cheryl Poore (Harwich, MA); loving grandmother of Denise and Terry Shelton, Brian and Trisha Poore, Dennis Roy Poore, Diana Poore and Jeramie and Tiffiany Poore; great grandmother to Melissa, Alex, Jennifer, Michael, Nick, Jake, Max, Samantha, Lila and Grayson, great-great grandmother to Daren, Trenton and Aubrey and cherished aunt to Cherise Langenberg. She is survived by sister, Viola Lauck, of Arkansas City, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her life’s purpose was to serve and love her Lord and Savior. She did this best by providing a home for her family established on a foundation of faith. She modeled a spirit of generosity, gentleness, hard work, perseverance and unselfish service for her children and extended family. She was a consummate homemaker and had an amazing gift of hospitality that provided an open invitation to her home and table to all neighbors, friends and the homesick college students whom she would meet while working at Anderson University. She loved all things pertaining to children and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Her other interests included reading, sewing, cooking, volunteering for Meals On Wheels and numerous missionary support projects. Her “servant’s heart” and fierce pioneer spirit will be the enduring legacy she leaves her family and friends.
A Celebration Open House will be held at her daughter’s home on Sunday, January 19, 2014 @ 1 PM.
We would like to extend a heart felt thank you to our mom’s incomparable health partners: Janet, Laura, Pat and Angela and to the amazing Hope/Health support and care staff: Molly, Melissa, Anne, Ashley, Eliza and Rosie.
