
his home surrounded by family and his wife of 51 years by his side. Bill was born
in Torrington, Ct. on January 29, 1935 and was the only child of William E. and
Anne M. (Rogers) Butler. He graduated in 1953 from St. John's Preparatory School
in Danvers, Ma. Upon graduation he served as a United States Marine as a
military policeman at Parris Island, S.C.
Bill was a butcher for 4 decades and was employed at the First National Stores., the
Litchfield Locker Plant.and Ellis's Market before working as a custodian in the
Nauset Regional School District.
He and his wife Judy moved to Harwich, Ma. in 1985 from Torrington, Ct. after
visiting the Cape for years.
Besides his wife he is survived by his four children: Mark W. of Chatham, Ma.,
Timothy R. of Torrington, Ct., Diane M. of Harwich, Ma. And Brian C. of
Torrington, Ct.; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed kayaking, hiking and especially loved
gardening. He also was an avid reader and putting together jigsaw puzzles. He
loved his time volunteering for the Council on Aging at the Harwich Community
Center. He was equally proud of his Irish heritage and his Country.
There will be a funeral Mass held at the Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St.,West Harwich,
Ma.02671. Friday October 26, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., followed by a burial service at the
Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich, Ma.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to either Cape Cod
Cares for the Troops at 1831 Long Pond Rd., Brewster, Ma. 02631 or The Harwich
Council on Ageing at The Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak St., Harwich, Ma.
