

Doris Winn (nee Beudert) November 27, 1923 to May 24, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, NY, one of five children, Doris met Jack Winn at Cypress Pool in Brooklyn, NY, and they married on October 3, 1942. She kept the home fires burning while he served in the Navy during World War II. Jack, Jr. was born in April 1945 at the Naval Base in Norfolk, VA. Tom was born in April 1949 (Brooklyn, NY). Jack returned to the service during the Korean Conflict, and Doris stayed behind in Brooklyn to care for the boys. Barbara was born in March 1952(Brooklyn, NY). In 1953, they moved to West Islip. In 1954, Doug was born, and the family was complete.
Doris was a hands-on grandmother to Andrew, Dan, Becky, Tim and Amy, who lived nearby. She was devoted to Steven and Brian on her frequent visits to them in Florida.
Doris spent her life serving her family, including her husband of seventy-years, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a true Mom of her generation, putting the interests of her family before those of herself.
Friends may visit at the Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Homes, 255 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 11795 Monday, May 27, 2013 from 7:00-9:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 10:00-12:00 p.m. Religious service Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home, officiated by Father Mickey Bancroft. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery
