Ann "Maxine" Davis age 88 of Lake Worth, Florida passed away peacefully on November 18, 2011 at the Hospice of Palm Beach County, Matt Lauer Unit of J.F.K. Hospital. She was preceded in death by her son, James Perry Davis; her husband, Sheldon Rene' Davis; grandson, Joseph S. Davis; and two brothers, Clarence and Kenneth McLaughlin. Ann grew up in the Western states during the Great Depression and became a much loved member of "Our Greatest Generation". She was not "Rosie the Riveter" but "Maxine the Ship Welder" in WWII shipyards. She came to Lake Worth with her family from Butte, Montana in 1951. She was "the Cafeteria Lady" at Lake Worth Middle School for 44 years. Her favorite character was "Maxine", whom she reminded us of frequently. She had a wonderful sense of humor and she loved to sing (she was a former member of "Sweet Adeline’s"). She loved to sneak away and play the “slots", and she tried so hard to learn to play the piano. She was a loving, caring, compassionate Mother, Grandmother, Friend and a Hero to us all. Survivors include her children, Robert Litz (Karen), Sandra Russell, William Davis (Marilyn), Joseph Davis (Pamela); siblings, Eyla Welborn, Hazel Scott, Jack McLaughlin, and Betty Travina, many very loved grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her dear friend, Margaret Goolsby. A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33405. Donations can be made to: Hospice of Palm Beach County (Matt Lauer Unit), 5301 S. Congress Ave., Lake Worth, FL 33462, in loving memory of Ann Maxine Davis.
