Anytime i think of you tio, its always good memories. You always had a smile, you showed everyone love, and you made everyone's day better. Thank you for welcoming me into your home from day one, and making me feel comfortable enough to call you Welo. Coming from a shy person that means a lot to me. Unfortunately being in NY we didn’t get to see you as much as we would have liked, but every time we did was impactful. I will always cherish those memories. You had a gift of putting a smile on everyone’s face & your love for your family is admirable. I see why Eli loves you so much. I will never forget how Eli’s face lit up every time he saw you especially when you made a simple gesture that meant so much. You were a huge light & I am grateful for having known you.

I first met Carmelo while visiting Florida.  His warm welcome and smile was truly appreciated.  Most of me knowing Carmelo, was through my wife (Milly's) words.  She loved him dearly.  So I listened to all the stories about him.   How good she was treated when she went to visit Carmelo and his family.  How good they cooked and how it was like going to a buffett when you went to their home.  The stories went on and on.  So , I then came to a conclusion - I hope to see him again and have a conversation.  When we met the next time,  it was here in Buffalo.  I received a sincere hug and was greeted with a beautiful smile along with a fun conversation.

Carmelo will always be remembered by me FOREVER.  It's been an honor to have met you

Many of you know him as “Carmelo”.  But, in this letter I will refer to him as “Cuke”. For since a child, that’s what we called him.

Dear Cuke,

	As many others, its hard to pick and choose a memory.  We had so many beautiful moments. You, not only were my brother in law, but a TRUE father figure to me.  One, that many children would have wished to have had. I will always cherish those days when we would play softball.  And just because I was a child, you never excluded me.  I loved to see you play the conga.  You would play the conga and get so deep into the rhythm and smile.  It was always a pleasure to see.  That smile that will FOREVER live.  We can’t leave out the dominoes.  Never liked to play against you, because I knew what I was facing.  LOL.... You were the master.  I definitely learned so much from you.  I remember when you handed me some tools and had me work on a car as you supervised me.  I felt so special and felt like I was the sh..... I swear I was a mechanic.  LOL....  You would take the time to talk to me, listen to me, give me advice, and never had a problem with correcting me when I was in the wrong.  But you did it all with Honesty, Compassion and TRUE love.  You were definitely a Blessing in my life.  

	This last time you visited Buffalo, I witnessed the most  beautiful thing.  You dancing with your wife (my sister), “Ada”.  It was a miraculous moment. That memory like every other, will forever live in my heart.

I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new I thought about you yesterday and days before that too, I think of you in silence I often speak your name All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part God has you in His keeping I have you in my heart.

You were such a beautiful person and a loving uncle to me. I always seen u as a second father no matter the distance you always had my back when i felt the world had my back against the wall , and i cherished your every word cause it always gave me a lift when i was seeing nothing but negativity,  Gentle heart but a strong hard working man that remind me of my father and the memories i had of you two together and how u treated me growing up like i was one of your own thank you for that love that never faded you will be missed but i know in some way you are still here,  ill still be waiting for you with a fishing pole and a beer cause i know you will always be near.

      I want to thank you for everything you have done for me. Your heart and spirit was one of a kind. Your energy and love always made family gatherings special. You were the life of the party!  You loved me with no prejudice and I will forever be indebted to you. 
       Spending time with you was a wonderful gift.  Watching the way you lived your life was monumental for me. You loved with all your heart and never held back showing it. You never held any grudges and treated everyone the same, with love! You spent all your life helping  others, no matter how you felt ,and you never complained about anything. I watched you struggle with things but not once did you complain or ask why? You are the perfect example of how everyone should live their lives.  Keep your famous coquito ready, until we meet again.

Papi
No other name holds more Affection in my heart than Papi - My Papi. This man knew no strangers. On his sleeve, he wore love, strength, and forgiveness with such kindness words cant describe. He would do anything for you… car repair, handyman. He taught me soo much. The source of my independent spirit. He did everything smiling and joking. The most welcoming in every way. Yet don’t mistake him to be soft when tough came out, his family would always be taken care of.

Being the oldest of five, playing Mama was one of the roles while our parents did all to make a way for us. As a teen, we moved into the Perry Projects… I still hear the comments that followed me through high school because my Papi cut our grass with a Machette. At the time many would say crazy Puerto Ricans. Yet my Papi was respected in that community. 

They had a plan my Mami would work hard for many years with my dad along her side, through thick and thin. We are who we are because of the fruit of their labor, hard work, and efforts. Mami always told me that he needed to know all there was about caring for his family if something should happen to her. When Papi wasn't working… He was no stranger to the kitchen. I like to call them Cuke Concoctions. So many great foods over the years. I believe cooking together was their favorite thing to do. They looked forward to every holiday. Most holidays were celebrated in our homes with so many welcome.

In my life they told me, they would lose me to travel and never see me again. I said you go where I go. I’ve been blessed to help give them a life they could enjoy. They have Great Ol Buffalo to bounce in between. 

I miss you my Sweet Papi words can not describe. Yet I vow to keep you in all I do great and small because your life means soo much to me I desire to see you all that God has given my hands to do. I love you, Papi. Tu hija Nancy

I will certainly miss Viejo (OLD MAN) as Carmelo and I affectionately called each other for as long as I can remember. I will never forget how from the very first day we met  some 33 years ago how he always treated me as family. I always felt welcome in his presence and I even appreciated how he made everyone that came into his house feel right at home. He certainly loved to entertain and I know everyone who knew him looked forward to the holidays because that’s when he would bring out his homemade Coquito. I will continue to celebrate having know such a caring man and I hope to always be as welcoming as he was in my home. He was a great example of how we should all live with caring hearts. And now a word to Carmelo himself, “there is no Sheeting in heaven”

To my Papi, mi “Loco Magoo”..I love you & I miss you so much, words can’t even express how I’m feeling but I know your here with me. You were always there for me through the toughest of times & guided me to be the best man I could be. So many memories to think of & I will always cherish them & keep them close to my heart. Your laughter could change a bad day to a good one in a blink of an eye, your cooking was the best & always had everyone wanting more. The Coquito memories, lol, we’re always the best cause someone always went down but you always knew how to make a party, a true party. I will miss the days spent doing projects together & enjoying those nice cold Coronas, your spirit I will carry in my heart forever & you will always live through me. Always the most welcoming and friendly even when his days may have not been going so good, the first to offer a corona and then the first to offer to open it for you. He was truly a very kind man and always willing to lend a hand for some house hold upgrades or even just to do some painting. The party won’t be the same without him but because of that he will always be missed and talked about at every party to come! We love and miss you Abuelo. 

Abuelo was absolutely one of the kindest and caring men I have ever met who truly adored his family more than anything. There wasn't a single day I visited Abuelo without him offering me a Corona just in case I was thirsty haha. He was a cornhole champion, the king of coquito, a go big or go home white elephant player, and most importantly an amazing husband, father, and grandfather to so many who looked up to him. Rest in peace Abuelo, I know you are body surfing a wave smiling with a Corona in your hand somewhere in peace. 

My dear Cuke, 

When I laid my eyes on you for the first time I knew you were going to be the love of my life forever, it was love at first sight. I promised God that we would be together until he would keep us apart and we fulfilled that promise. You were my best friend, the best husband, best father, and grandfather. You filled my life with so much love, joy, and happiness. I miss your beautiful smile and your very contagious laugh. We shared so many wonderful memories we have our laughs, jokes, and silly moments. I miss you calling me Vieja "old lady" and how you hug me so so tight and we would end up laughing out loud. Sadly you left me to be with the lord but your presence and your spirit will be with me until we're together again. You didn't take part of my heart with you, you took my whole heart. I will cherish every single moment of our life together. You will be the love of my life, my heart, and my soulmate forever until we meet in heaven and you welcome me with a big hug like you always have.

Even though I’m not technically family I’ve only known you as Abuelo and that’s what was so special about you. Thank you for always welcoming me into your home with a smile…the best smile! It’s so special to be welcomed (and fed) with such love. I’ll always cherish the times spent together on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve with you and Abuela…and of course your famous coquito!

Gracias a El Senor Abba Padre que tu esta con El en paz.   You are rejoicing, laughing and dancing now in eternity with Jesus.  The Lord blessed me with peace and understanding knowing you are no longer suffering in pain.  That makes it a little easier for me to carry on, knowing you are in Paradise.  

Thank you so much for everything from the time that I was a child to being a Woman, you instilled my  Faith in God,  love, guidance in life and you were always by my side through the good and bad times.  You taught me so much, how to fight the good fight in faith and literally to fight only if need be. You weren't just my Father, you were one of my Best Friends and my first and one of the best Coaches I had, teaching me and playing baseball and softball with us.  You came to my games to watch me play, cheering for me even when it rained.   I'll never forget those times, they all meant the world to me.  

Gracias por ayudar me con Lexy y Brandino y como acer no nadama un mejor Mami pero tambien un Papi a ellos.  Gracias por acer un Papi tambien, no nadama un Buelo a Lexy y Brandon. Gracias por todo Papi!  Your laughter, your strength and your funny jokes.  Watching you through life taught me to be myself know matter what and to have a thick skin, though to be kind, loving and always show compassion.  You will always be my one and only querido Papi.  

You were always hardworking, if not working on the cars or house, you would be working in the yard or cooking.  Always making Mami laugh and watching your good movies, had to be action.  Even when you couldn't remember the name of the movies, you knew all about the movie.  The way you were so loving to all the kids and fun.   I'm going to miss all of you so thank you for it all!  I love you forevermore and until we meet again in Heavenly Eternity mi precioso, querido Papi!

I love you more than I can express. I feel so lucky to have always had you so close by.  My whole life you've shown me the value of being kind, welcoming, and loving to everyone, and because of that everyone loves you in return. I will miss how being greeted by you felt like the highlight of your day, your sweet laughter, and most of all leftover dried spaghettis. You've taught me that family comes first and I thank you for always being there for me and all my car repairs. I will cherish our afternoons together listening to Willie Colon and fishing in Georgia with you. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. I remember meeting Carmelo when I was young and still in high school. Never forget how he showed me warmth and the value of family. Even throughout the years that never wavered and always extended that warms do family to all the other people in my life. A lesson I'll never forget. I will truly miss him but most of all his cooking. LOL

Today we celebrate your life. 21 years ago I was blessed to be part of this family. I remember the day Richie told me that I had to meet his parents. I was so scared, nervous, so many things ran through my mind, like would they like me, would I fit in, am I the one that they want for their son to be with. I remember walking through the door and seeing your face for the first time and we instantly clicked. As the years went by my love for you was like the love a daughter has for their father. You became that father that I never had. You were always there for me, especially in my toughest time when I was pregnant with Naomi. You always encouraged me to keep going, that you will always have my back, because of you and all the family I was able to stay strong and I will never take that for granted. I was so blessed to have such a wonderful father and grandfather. As for Nani and Lulu they are going to miss you so much, but most of it all will be your famous pancakes. They always looked forward to those weekends to spend time with you and to enjoy those pancakes that you always made with so much love. Even Though today is one of our hardest days and the pain feels unbearable. I know that you're up in heaven looking down at us and you will always be in our hearts. I thank God for all these years that I was able to spend with you and I will forever hold that in my heart.

My Papi, my everything! These words are not enough, for I truly wish you were still here with me. From my childhood, through my teenage years, 26 yrs of Naval Service & as I married & became a father myself...you were always there...proud of my every accomplishment!  You inspired me to be great & become the best man I can be...a man you could be proud of.  But I couldn't have done that without your love &  guidance!  I can only hope to emulate you & be that same pillar of strength for my family, depart wisdom on all that seek it & be as loving & caring  as you, albeit with you no longer in my life. 
You may have left us, but I know I will never be alone...just as I carried you in my heart when I left home to become that man you raised me to be, I knew I always had you in my heart and always will! 
There are too many memories to speak of,  but I will forever cherish every passing moment we had together.  You taught me so much...the life lessons, morals and values that molded me; teaching me the game of baseball & watching the sport you so loved together; teaching me the secret recipe for Coquito; to playing dominoes; showing me, your "Chef-Boy-ar-Dee", how to cook or grilling together; to the best family celebrations & drinking beers; or just relaxing and watching movies together...it was always full of love, joy and laughter! 
It deeply saddens me that I will never hear your voice again, or hold you in my arms once more...but I look forward to the day we come together again, Father & Son catching up on old times and sharing all the joyous moments you missed, but knowing we all carried you in our hearts! Until then, you will always be with me! I'll forever have your words of wisdom to guide me in all I do & your loving memories to last me till my last breath.

Melo i just wanna say, u were thee "BOMB DIGITTY!! U left GREAT memories! Memories that will never b 4gotten. Melo I wud like 2 thank God 4 blessing me with u 4 a lifetime. There’s too many memories  to pick a favorite and I was 1000 miles away .. That’s what’s so special about him.. Someone so far away could make you feel soo loved and important every time you seen or spoke with him.  He was hard working, caring, always positive and put everyone else before himself.  And the cookingg, anything he touched was delicious .. My Papa Welo could pour you a bowl of cereal and it would be the best cereal you ever had ...  Welo was always happy ! I don’t think I’ve ever seen my welo angry once .
 That’s what I aspire to be because of my papa Welo .. Always positive , accepting and caring ..

Abuelo, thank you for being a representation of love, strength and kindness to our family. I am so lucky to have been the first grand baby. I got to be with you, dance with you, and be loved by you the longest. I have heard your laughter for  so many years of my life and I can still feel it in my heart.
