Gay served our country in the armed forces during the Korean War. He attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Gay met the love of his life, JoAnn Harvell, while at college and they married in 1954.

He later joined his father managing the family restaurant businesses – Fitz’s Drive-In, Darlin’s Take-out, The Carling House and The Country Inn which recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
