

Jim was born in Kirksville, Missouri to Cecil O. and Freta Martin on January 1, 1949.
He went to school at Kirksville High School and graduated from Truman University with a degree in Business Administration. Jim married Jana Taylor on December 28, 1969 in (Kirksville, Missouri). He worked in his family business, Western Auto & Hardware, until moving to Sarasota in 1987. He then began a career at Tropicana before retiring. Jim was an avid duck hunter and a 50- year member of Ducks Unlimited. He was a member of The Remnant Church and enjoyed helping in the kitchen. He volunteered and was on the board of the World’s Attic, a non-profit donation center that supports other charities and missions around the world. Jim’s favorite past-time was spending time in his back yard with “Butts and Ashes” his cherished meat smoker which he used frequently to share his delicious smoked meats with friends and family. “Butts and Ashes” will be donated to Ducks Unlimited to carry on the tradition for their annual dinner. Jim was also known for his love of cats and never met a stray he didn’t try to feed.
Jim is preceded in death by his father and mother.
Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years Jana Martin, his son Asa Martin and daughter in-law April, his sister Sara Martin Cloyed Trower, his niece Suzanne and her husband Rich Rhodes and their daughter Lauren, his brother in-law Stephen Taylor, his wife Judy and their son Jason.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Remnant Church, 2895 Ashton Road, Sarasota Florida. His remains will be cremated.
