

John was born on June 22nd, 1942, to Catherine Brennan and John Starr in Queens, New York. After graduating high school in 1959 from Rice High School in Manhattan, New York, John enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on July 9th of that year. While enlisted with the United States Marine Corps, John served as a Corporal in both Japan and Southeast Asia. During his time in the Marines, John received the USMC Good Conduct Medal before receiving an honorable discharge on July 8th, 1965.
In 1966 John joined the New York Police Department as a Patrol Officer in Harlem at the 25th Precinct. While employed by NYPD John received a commendation for assisting a distressed man during a mental health crisis. John was able to speak with the man who was standing on an icy roof and bring him to safety. John also assisted in the delivery of multiple babies during his time working as a NYPD Patrol Officer. During the last three years of his career John was a member of the Warrants Division. In 1990 John retired from the New York Police Department.
In 1974 John was set up on a blind date with Joann Carney. Eight months later, on May 3rd, 1975, the two married in Hempstead New York. They spent nearly 50 years together before John’s passing.
John was an avid New York Mets fan who enjoyed watching baseball games in his favorite armchair while enjoying a glass of scotch. John, a caring man, was a wealth of knowledge and was always supportive of his loved ones. John was a very heartfelt man who would do what ever it took to make his wife Joann smile.
John is predeceased by his mother Catherine Brennan, his father John Starr, and his brother James William Starr.
John is survived by his wife Joann Starr, his brother William Starr, his brother Michael Starr and wife Dr. Joanne Starr, and many other beloved family members.
Services will be held at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach Florida on Wednesday January 22nd from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
