Marie Verbeck McMullen

Marie Verbeck McMullen of West Palm Beach passed away on 12/20/14 at home surrounded by family. Marie was born in Louisville, KY on 11/12/1922 to Irene G. and Bryan V. Megrath. Raised in Lake Park, she attended St. Ann’s Catholic School. She proudly served in the Navy as a Wave during WWII. For 25 years, she worked as the Assistant Director to Librarian at the University of Miami, where she made many life-long friends. Following retirement, she moved to Palm Beach County to be closer to her beloved brother and his family. She was a member of St. Thomas More parish in Boynton Beach for many years before moving to West Palm Beach and joining St. Ann’s parish. She spent many years volunteering at Café Joshua.

Marie was predeceased by her parents, sister, Irene G. Smith, and her brother, William A. Megrath. She is survived by her son, Bryan T. McMullen (Lynn) and grandsons Gabriel and Jameson, all of California. Marie is also survived by her niece Kathy Shea (Robbie) and her children Hilary McCubbin (Johnathan), Justin and Trevor, who cared for her for many years. Additional survivors include nieces and nephews Bill Megrath (Kathy), Sue Lumbra (Jim), Mike Megrath (Diane), Matt Megrath (Allison), Bryan Megrath (Wendy), Laurie Tankersley (Craig), Bryan Smith, Bill Smith and John Smith and their families.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, 1/11/15 from 3-5pm at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation, and Event Center, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Monday, 1/12/15 at 10:30 am. Internment with Military Honors will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL.
