

Nikolai was born in Siberia, Russia on March 12, 1949 to Alexander and Katerina Tambovsky. Shortly afterwards they moved to Rostov on Don in the southern part of Russia, where Nikolai grew up and discovered his talent, love, and passion for playing the violin. He began playing at 9 years old, showing tremendous potential and quickly progressed in his musicianship. He attended the local music school then graduated with Masters in Music Performance from the Rostov State Conservatory named after S. V. Rachmaninov.
While in school, his engineering mind wanted to know how different instruments produce such vastly different sounds, and that curiosity led to him from simply playing to creating instruments that bring out the best qualities of every musician. After completing his apprenticeship in making stringed instruments, he worked as the luthier-in-residence at the prestigious Kiev Conservatory, the top music school in the USSR. To this day, his legacy extends throughout the world and will his instruments will continue to inspire musicians for many years to come.
He is survived by his four children, Kateryna, Anna, Julia, and Alexander, and four grandchildren with another on the way. Preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Yuri Tambovsky.
A celebration of life for Nikolai will be held Monday, December 26, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at 2290 - Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation, and Event Center, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33405, followed by a celebration of life service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
