He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Murray Horodner.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, his daughter Rachel, his sister Norma, and Norma's family, whom he was very close to. He also leaves behind many other relatives, friends, and neighbors whose lives he touched.
Long-time residents of Andros Isle, Robert and Phyllis were part of a close-knit community of friends and neighbors. Their support, constant over the years, became especially meaningful this past year as their friends rallied around them with exceptional love and care.
Robert was born in The Bronx, NY on September 15, 1947. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Herbert H. Lehman College. He served on active duty in the United States Navy, which included time aboard the USS Orion. He received an honorable discharge and the National Defense Service Medal.
Robert loved music—especially The Beatles and Broadway showtunes. He also loved traveling—a passion he shared with his wife Phyllis. Together they flew, drove, and cruised all over the world. He and his daughter Rachel shared a love of adventures, often traveling to the biggest roller coasters, the best mountain biking, and other extreme activities they decided to try. He loved his dogs Harold and Bentley and riding his bicycle wherever and whenever he could.
Robert’s professional life included roles as an air traffic controller, a stockbroker, and the owner of his own brokerage firm. After retiring, he worked at an assisted-living facility as a trusted and well-loved driver. No matter the job, he excelled. He was reliable to a fault—never late, always prepared, and consistently praised for his dedication and skill.
People loved him everywhere he went and throughout every chapter of his life. He brought a calm, unshakable ease to everything he did. He faced his final year with determination and strength.
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated through the Department of Veterans Affairs and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in West Palm Beach. Family and friends who would like details about funeral services should reach out to Robert’s immediate family directly.
The family would like to acknowledge the many people who selflessly donated lifesaving blood and platelets—both for Robert and for countless other patients in need. Their generosity gave him time, hope, and comfort, and it continues to support so many who are fighting similar battles.
In lieu of sending flowers, consider donating blood or joining the stem cell registry to help others in need. You can also support the Leukemia and Lymphoma community by making a donation in Robert’s memory through his Blood Cancer United memorial page: https://diy.bloodcancerunited.org/fundraiser/6838997.
