Tereta Amanda Osbourne a twin was born on November 12th, 1947, to Clifford and Sarah Osbourne in the District of Lluidas Vale St. Catherine, Jamaica. Tereta attended Lluidas Vale Primary School in St. Catherine, Jamaica. After graduating she learned dressmaking, and soon after began working as a Domestic Helper and Nanny in Kingston, Jamaica.
Tereta was a hard worker and took pride in her work, and in whatever things she set her mind to do. Her life was farming, gardening, sewing, crochet & embroidery, raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She was incredibly industrious and managed a small store in her home. She worked tirelessly in Kingston for so many years to assist her parents and younger siblings.
Tereta was kind, sweet, and loving people came naturally to her, a belly full of laughter, telling old time stories and parables, she was a people person. She never seemed depressed even while her eyesight diminished, she continued to attend to her gardens. She was determined to reap “the fruits of her labor.” She loved her “Peas” and was elated when she saw the first blossom of the season. She was extremely “grateful” with the very least of things given to her. A visit to Tereta meant that you never left empty handed, she shared her garden vegetables and fruits with the neighbors. One of her neighbors asked, “Are you a Santa Claus!”
Tereta was passionate about serving Christ, loved attending church and adored her church family. She made sure to bring her tithes and offerings to the house of the Lord, she encouraged others to give an offering and to never come empty handed. Singing hymns, and reading her bible was a joy to her. She enjoyed Christian radio and television, while keeping up with current events. She loved her daytime soap operas, and really, really loved the series “Walker Texas Ranger.” Spending time with her family and friends was a treat, especially her grandchildren.
Tereta migrated to the United States in 2001 to be with her family, she was 53 years of age. She enjoyed going back home at Christmas Time, bringing toys, candies, and a variety of goodies for neighborhood children, friends, and family. They adored Miss Tereta, she would say “Christmas was better in Jamaica.”
Tereta is survived by her four children Diana (Albert), Andrew (Cheryl), Denton (Emily), and Sandy (Gregory). Deceased children are Kareen, Billy, and Ron.
