April 11, 1940 – July 22, 2025
David Edward Snead passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 85, with his loving wife, son, and daughter at his bedside.
Dave was born in Vancouver, the only child of Madeline and Edward Snead. He graduated from Magee Secondary School and went on to earn his civil engineering degree and later a doctorate from the University of British Columbia. A gifted engineer, Dave spent much of his professional career with Cook Pickering and Doyle, where he was known for his integrity, dedication, and collaborative spirit.
In 1963, Dave married the love of his life, Jane. Together they built a life full of love, adventure, and family. In the early years of their marriage, they made their home in Niagara Falls, where they created many fond memories of sailing on the Niagara River. Once back in Vancouver, Dave and Jane raised three children, fulfilling their dream of having a family. Their passion for sailing continued and countless family memories were created sailing around the Gulf Islands. Once their children were grown, Dave and Jane embraced their new found freedom and embarked on many travel adventures. Dave’s favourite trip was to New Orleans but equally cherished the cruises they took through Europe.
Upon retirement, Dave dedicated countless hours to serving as the Strata president on his building’s Strata council. The entire community greatly benefited from Dave’s intelligence, focus, and attention to detail. When not working hard on behalf of the Strata, Dave enjoyed participating in Fit Fellas which provided both fitness and social engagement. Dave was always willing to lend a hand, and his kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Jane, his son Andrew (Sandy), daughter Amanda, and grandsons MacEwan and Corbin. He was predeceased by his son Anthony (Kristen), whose memory remained close to his heart.
By Dave’s wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of his life, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
