August 5, 1935 - September 7, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce that Fred passed away on September 7, 2015 in the North Shore Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born and raised in Forfar, Scotland, where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy, in April 1960. In June of that year, the couple immigrated to Canada, where they settled in West Vancouver to raise their family of four.
Fred worked as a sales representative for Bonar Packaging from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. His friendly, outgoing personality made him many friends over the years, both in his business and personal life. He enjoyed a number of hobbies, including playing trombone in the West Vancouver Adult Band, singing in the West Vancouver Church choir, painting, gardening, and practicing the art of bonsai as a member of the West Coast Bonsai Society.
Fred was always happiest in the company of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Dorothy, his children Susan (Carl), Andrew (Kate), Peter (Emily) and John (Suzanne), his grandchildren, Olivia and Graham, step-granddaughter, Alexis (Kevin), his brother Nicol (Liz), sister-in-law, Margaret Fyfe, several nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family in Scotland.
The family would like to extend their grateful thanks to the marvelous caregivers who looked after Fred at home and in the North Shore Hospice.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home (1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver) on Monday, September 14 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Shore Hospice would be greatly appreciated: www.lghfoundation.com.
