James died of leukemia on May 9, 2014 at age 80. He had a B.Sc. (Hons) from Queens University, Belfast and a Ph.D from Durham University, England. He was also the recipient of a Leverhume Fellowship. James was a geologist who loved the career he had chosen, which spanned more than 55 years. He travelled extensively with his work, lived in numerous countries and spoke several languages fluently. He had many outside interests, his favourite being photography. He had a wonderful life. Thank you for the visits made by numerous friends who came from far and wide during his illness.
