He is also survived by his sister-in-law Joanna and his nephew Andrew, his wife Laura and their children Charlotte and Emily. John was born in Vancouver and attended Maple Grove Elementary and Point Grey Junior High School and Magee High School before moving to Winnipeg in the early 60’s, where he completed high school at Silver Heights Collegiate. John graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. At university he was an active member of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity remaining good friends with many of his frat brothers all his life. John and Louise were married in 1971 and in 1974 moved back to Vancouver. John began his engineering career with Chevron Canada where he enjoyed a variety of positions until his retirement in 2005. John enjoyed being involved in West Vancouver Municipal politics and attended in-person or online Council Meetings. Following his retirement, he held an active role in the Chevron Retirees Association as Board Secretary. He valued working with former colleagues, preparing minutes and organizing events. He took pleasure in assisting Chevron Retirees as any need arose. His family was of prime importance to John and the 3 spent considerable precious time together in our homes, at coffee shops, shopping but most of all on many trips, travelling extensively and frequently. John’s favourite holidays always were trans-Atlantic cruises followed by a minimum of 2 weeks in Provence, and latterly by cruises to Hawaii or Alaska. He became travel consultant for many friends and took pleasure in sharing his knowledge, personal travel tips and advice. He expressed his love of travel through vivid photography. John was a proud 50-year member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. John gave much of himself to others. He was a warm, caring individual, a steadfast and trusted friend, who will always remain in our hearts and thoughts. John received exceptional care at Lions Gate Hospital. His physician, Dr. Hertz, will long be remembered for his continuous updates, attention and support, as will the team of doctors and nurses in Palliative Care.
