John Wayne Grant Dick

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Wayne Grant Dick (aka “Sally” to his friends from his home town) on December 30, 2025.

John was born on April 21, 1948 to John P. & Mary (nee Braun) Dick in Altona, MB. He spent his childhood in Altona and as he was growing up he discovered a love for basketball, a passion that continued through high school. After school he found employment at Friesen Printers in Altona, working in the Masking Dept. With this job, he was able to take many winters off and travel to Mexico, staying for 2-3 months. He did this until he met the love of his life Ruth in the 70’s and moved to Winnipeg in 1979 to be together with her. In June of 1980, John & Ruth moved to North Vancouver to be closer to Ruth’s family. John continued in the same profession, working in Prepress for Mitchell Press, where he stayed until his retirement. They enjoyed many years of travelling south in particular to Palm Springs a trip they looked forward to annually.

John is predeceased by his wife Ruth, his mother in 1979 and his father in 1997. He is survived by his brother Harold (Marilyn) and their family, and his sister Brenda and her family. He is also survived by Ruth’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
