Cynthia Lancaster passed away peacefully in her home on August 14, 2019 at age 90.
Loving wife of Cullis (Cully) for 54 years, proud mother of Lisa Kershaw (Jim) and Mark, and enthusiastic Gran of treasured grandchildren Gillian, William and Robert Kershaw. Predeceased by her husband in 2014 and brother R.H. (Harry) Barnett in 2000.
Cynthia was born April 3, 1929 in Saskatoon, Sask, to Robert and Matilda Barnett. She attended Nutana Collegiate and the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a BA in English in 1949.
She moved to Vancouver in 1950 with three girlfriends and was secretary to Dr E.D. McPhee, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at UBC. After her marriage in 1960, she moved to West Vancouver.
Once her family was raised, she returned to work as Development Officer for the Arthritis Society and later the Society of Intestinal Research.
Cynthia was a gracious and elegant mom and a committed volunteer. After retirement, she took up golf and bridge, both of which brought great enjoyment, with golf serving as the focus for Cynthia and Cully’s travels for many years.
But it was her family from which she derived the greatest pleasure. She took great interest in her grandchildren following with pride their accomplishments. And she was faithful walker of their dogs, Murphy and Cooper.
Sincere thanks to her caregivers, Dr Kathleen Bell-Irving, and the Coastal Health palliative team for their compassionate care.
A service of celebration for Cynthia’s life will be held at St Christopher’s Anglican Church, 1068 Inglewood, West Vancouver, on Tuesday October 15, 2019 at 2pm, her place of worship for over 50 years.
