Phillip John Callaghan

It is with great sadness that we announced the passing of Phillip John Callaghan on April 13, 2025. Loving husband and father leaving behind his wife Kate and son Matthew, brothers Michael and Tim (Maria).

Phillip was born March 2, 1951 in London, England. He immigrated with his parents Joan & John to Canada in 1969.

Phillip attended the University of British Columbia, completing a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science.

He had great sense of humour and often left people wondering if he was joking or being serious when discussing a topic.

He lived for soccer and played the game into his early 50’s. He was avid fan of the English Premier League and a lifelong supporter of Chelsea Football Club. Phillip and his father, John, would walk to Chelsea games and cheer from the rails with standing room only. He looked forward to the beginning of each new season and never missed a game on TV.

Always a very physically active person running in the Sun Run, cycling, playing squash in his younger years then in his later years loved to hike and snowshoe on the North Shore.

He loved to take cruises for vacation. Phillip and Kate took our first mini cruise in Fiji 1988 and he was hooked. They travelled to many destinations like Alaska, Caribbean, Mexico and Panama Canal.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Lions Gate Hospital ICU, the doctors, nurses & RTs did an amazing job caring for Phillip in his last days.

Also we would like to thank Dr. Lee of the St. Paul’s Hospital Elder Care Clinic & the Community Health staff - Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist and Nutritionist who visited our home to help Phillip in his last months of life.

Phillip had many friends in Canada and England, we would like to thank some cherished friends who would take him out for pub lunches and walks, as well as visit him at home in his last year. He always looked forward to these days.

The viewing will be held at Hollyburn Funeral home in West Vancouver on Monday April 21st @6pm-8pm.

The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday April 22 at 11 am at St. Puis X Church in North Vancouver.

1150 Mt Seymour Rd, North Vancouver, V7G 1R6. There will be a viewing at the church from 10 - 11 am.
