DAVISON, Samuel James. Born March 10, 1964 and passed away suddenly on February 18, 2023 at the age of 58. Predeceased by his parents George and Joan, survived by his wife of 27 years Elaine, beloved children Amelia and Jack, siblings Gail (Rick), Rick (Theresa), Karen (Glen), Ellen (Brian), In laws Robert & Joan Hui, sister-in-law Sandra (Kris), brother-in-law Stephen, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sam attended Simon Fraser University, played on their varsity golf team and obtained his Business degree there. He then joined Clarkson Gordon (now E&Y) and became a chartered accountant. E&Y was also where he and his lifelong friends played ball hockey, basketball and golf, was roped into softball for the first time, and where he met Elaine. Sam continued his career in the technology sector with HotHaus, Broadcom, Teradici (to name a few) and joined non-profit Greater Vancouver Community Services Society from which he retired in 2021.
Sam loved playing sports (golf, squash, softball, running). He served on the Boards of Roedde House, Spectrum Society for Community Living and as a coach and treasurer for West Vancouver Little League. He also completed the BC Ride to Conquer Cancer multiple times, earning a yellow jersey as a top fundraiser. He proudly rode with the yellow survivor flag on his bike alongside his brother-in-law Kris as well as the memorable year when all his sisters joined him as Team Green Eggs and Sam. Sam was also a passionate music lover and made it to the Bumbershoot, Solid Sound, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festivals in addition to many concerts, often with his entire family. Sam meticulously planned family trips to Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Italy and Greece.
Sam was diagnosed with cancer soon after Jack was born, and endured a gruelling regime of radiation and chemo to “be able to throw a ball around with the boy one day”. 2020 began with surgery to repair jaw damage wrought by the radiation, but the relief that this procedure was supposed to provide never materialized. Sam fought long and hard to stay with his loved ones, but with cancer recurrence in 2021 and increasingly complex health issues, he succumbed peacefully.
Special thank yous to Dr. Lee Anne Wills, Dr. David Sowden, Dr. Sasha Smiljanic, Dr. Eitan Prisman and all the amazing community nurses and support staff who were of immeasurable assistance.
Sams Celebration of Life will be held March 29, 2023. Please email [email protected] to RSVP and for details as they become available.
In lieu of flowers, we gratefully request charitable donations in his memory to one of the Greater Vancouver Community Services Society, West Vancouver Little League Baseball or BC Cancer Foundation.
