

Max (Bo) E. Welborn, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011 after several months of an extended illness. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. til time of service at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake. His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011. Rev. Ray Swift, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff will lead Mr. Welborn’s celebration of life service with Terry Stanley, deacon and Sunday School Teacher assisting. There will be military rites at the graveside with taps rendered by his nephew, Eddie Joslin. Pallbearers will be his grandson, Blake Welborn and nephews, Michael Welborn, David Haynes, Eddie Joslin, Randall McIlwain and Chad Savoy.
Mr. Welborn was born in and grew up in Beauregard Parish near Dry Creek, LA. He played basketball for and graduated from Dry Creek High School. He attended Northwestern State University until he enlisted in the US Air Force. He served one of his three years and a half years in Korea during the Korean War and achieved the rank of sergeant. After completing his military service, he attended McNeese State and received his BA degree and earned his Med and plus thirty hours during his earlier teaching years. Mr. Welborn taught at schools in Schenectady, New York, Barbe Elementary in Lake Charles and then completed most of his 35 years at S. P. Arnett in Westlake until his retirement.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also built houses in his spare time. Mr. Welborn was devout in his Christian beliefs and was active in Moss Bluff First Baptist Church in his younger years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, church, clerk and Training Union Director. Although a quiet and reserved man, Mr. Welborn loved his Lord, his country and his family. He will be missed greatly by those who loved him.
Mr. Welborn is survived by his wife of 59 years, Isabelle Marra Welborn; daughter, Colleen Margaret Welborn; two sons, Robert Wayne Welborn (Vera) of Spring, TX and Larry E. Welborn ( Bonnie) of Lafayette, LA. His two grandchildren were his pride and joy, Erin Welborn of Cypress, TX and Blake Welborn, Lafayette, LA. Survivors also include two sisters, Martha Ann McIlwain (Larry) of Sulphur, LA, Sandy Welborn of DeRidder, LA and James A. Welborn (Janie) of DeRidder, LA; 7 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces.
Mr. Welborn was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Alpha McFatter Welborn; grandparents, William B. and Rosa Susan Andrews Welborn and William Edward McFatter and Mary Perkins McFatter; brothers, Donald Douglas Welborn, Charles Ray Welborn, William E. (Sear) Welborn and Thomas S. Welborn.
