Gerard “Jerry” Madill, 82, of North Olmsted, Ohio, formerly of Rockland County, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025. He was born in New York City to the late William and Ruth (Sexton) Madill.
Jerry was the devoted and loving husband of Janice (née Tanzillo) Madill, his partner in life and love, who preceded him in death on September 5, 2022. Their bond was one of deep devotion and shared joy. He was a proud and caring father to Eugene Madill, a cherished grandfather to Gerard James and Grace Ruby Madill, and a loving father-in-law to Roxanne Madill. Jerry was also a treasured cousin and loyal friend to many, leaving behind a wide circle of people who were better for having known him.
Raised on Staten Island, Jerry answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably in Vietnam. After returning home, he continued a life of service as a New York City firefighter in the Bronx, dedicating 20 years to protecting others with courage and selflessness. Even in retirement, his commitment to safety and community endured through his work as a fire safety inspector for Texaco Oil in White Plains, New York.
In 2016, Jerry and Janice moved to Ohio to be closer to their grandchildren who brought him immense pride and happiness. A lifelong New York sports fan, Jerry enthusiastically supported the New York Giants and New York Mets. He could often be found reading multiple newspapers to stay up to date on sports and current events.
Above all else, Jerry was a family man. He put everyone before himself, led with kindness, and loved deeply. A true Irish patriarch, his strength, humor, and steady presence will live on through the generations he cherished so dearly.
