Shirley Ann Lucas (Massey) Born March 27, 1939, in Naoma, West Virginia, left her earthly body for a reunion in heaven on October 29,2021 at the age of 82 in Cuyahoga Falls surrounded by her family. Shirley left West Virginia in 1955 with her family for a future in Cleveland, Ohio. It was here she met and ultimately married the love of her life, William G. Lucas on December 19, 1958. They lived in Cleveland, Lakewood, and in Bay Village, on the south side of Lake Road, or the “poor” side as she liked to say. Shirley lived in Bay for 50 years where she enjoyed looking across the street at the lake and watching the deer. She shared stories of a 3-legged doe and her babies and the way she cared for them. Shirley is a member of Crossroads Church, formally Bay Village Baptist Church, where she enjoyed many years and made many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Alma Massey, brothers Richard and Danny, and sister Barbara Banks. She was widowed in 2013 when William succumbed to cancer. Shirley was not one that enjoyed being alone and started to need a little extra help, so she moved to Cuyahoga Falls to be near family. Shirley enjoyed reading and her guilty pleasure was an occasional trip to a casino to play the Hee Haw game. She always said she shouldn’t do it and justified playing as her “relaxation” time.
Shirley’s most important position and greatest joy was mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loving, kind, protective and generous. Family was the center of her life. Shirley is survived by children, Gwendelyn Williams (Dwight), Kevin Lucas, and Wm. Brian Lucas(Maggie). Grandchildren, Brooke Bullion(Todd), Jordan Darrah(Kyle), Garrett Williams(Colton Orr), Krista Williams(Michael McDowell), Christopher Lucas, Dellaney Lucas, Trent Thomas(Ashley), and Jacob Lucas. Great-grandchildren, Liam and Luke Bullion. Shirley is also survived by brothers, Eugene Massey(Janet), Delbert Massey, Junior Massey, and sister, Sharon Lenz. Sister-in-laws, Mary Ellen Dalton, Ruth Gehrman(Carl) and brother- in-law Dennis Lucas. Shirley has been blessed to have many kind people in her life, most amazing neighbors, and caregivers. A special thank you to Kindred Hospice for their support and care. I could not have traveled this road without the help of Tara, Jen, Billy Jo, Jordan, Shelley and Dan. Jen, thanks for bringing a smile to Mom’s face.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations to Alzheimer’s Association.
