Bart was born on November 13, 1951 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was the first child of Barth Eugene May and Barbara Jean Gurd.
Bart first moved to California in 1961. As a young child Bart was an enthusiastic rock collector, demonstrating his love of nature. He enjoyed hiking and climbed to the summit of Mt. Whitney seven times. He loved snow skiing, trips to Lake Havasu and Cabo, and exploring Hungary, Austria and Italy.
Bart restored a 1976 MG Midget which won multiple awards. He enjoyed target shooting and was an avid football fan. He loved spending time with family and friends, whether it was attending his nephews’ football games, casual weekends on the patio, smoking cigars or watching NCIS with his brother. Bart cherished anytime spent with his grandchildren, especially their trip to Tahoe. And he did all this while wearing his Tommy Bahama shirts.
Bart was a prominent member of the building community and property development industry in Southern California for 30 years. He had the privilege of working with the best builders and developers in the business. Bart was extremely proud of every single project he worked on. It didn’t matter to him if it was large or small or at what level he was involved. Bart enjoyed it all, as long as the meetings were short and the project trailer was air conditioned.
Bart is preceded in death by his parents. Bart is survived by his wife, Shasta May, his son Bart May and wife (Ahnjayla), his daughter Michele May and husband (Chris), youngest daughter Tara May, and his grandchildren, Chandler May and Alyssa May. Other loved ones left to endure his loss are his brother Mark May and wife (Teri) and his sister Pamela Lowry and fiancé (James), along with 16 nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends and extended family that loved him dearly.
