Bonnie Cabral, a 34-year resident of Thousand Oaks, CA, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at City of Hope. She was born in Kansas City, MO on February 9, 1949 to John and Jessie Martin. Bonnie had two siblings, Mary (John) Sentz and Stephen J. (deceased).
She is loved and cherished by Joseph Cabral, her husband of 41 years, whom she met while attending Cal State Hayward. They married on March 14, 1971 at All Saint’s Catholic Church in Hayward, CA, where they resided until 1978 when they moved to Southern California.
Bonnie was dedicated to enriching the lives of children. She was an educator in Public and Montessori Schools. She was recognized as a Continuing Service Award recipient by the PTA, which she served for many years. She volunteered full-time as the Office Manager for the Thousand Oaks High School Band for 11 years and for the past 7 years enjoyed children having fun while being introduced to music at her daughter’s music school.
Her family was her passion. Bonnie was a loving mother to Bonnie Cristine (deceased), Michael (Tina), Melissa (Andrew) Linhart, Mindy, and Michelle (John) Kershaw. Her greatest joy was sharing time with her grandchildren: James, Brandon, Heidi, Nikki, Aaron, and Natalie.
She has always had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats and birds. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, scrapbooking, sewing, taking photographs, keeping up with the latest technology, and travelling. She also spent much of her free time exploring her genealogy, which she has dated back to the 1700s.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 26th, from 7-9pm. A memorial service celebrating her life will begin the following morning at 10am. Both services will take place at Valley Oaks Chapel at Pierce Brothers Mortuary in Westlake Village, CA. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to organizations that Bonnie supported, including: The Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra, The American Cancer Society, The Conejo Valley YMCA, The Employee Ownership Foundation, City of Hope, and St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church.
