Elsie (Els) Marie DeWeese passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Los Robles hospital at 1:30 AM after suffering a heart attack Friday afternoon. She had been working in her garden and repotting hanging baskets in her patio and laid down to rest when her heart gave out and was taken to Los Robles where she left this world to be with Jesus.
She was born January 15, 1930 in Puyallup, Washington where she graduated from high school in 1947 then attended Seattle Pacific University. Els and John were married in Pasadena, California on December 17, 1950 and moved to Costa Mesa where John was working in the construction business and Els was a homemaker. Els and John have lived in Thousand Oaks since 1975. She was a member at North Ranch Country Club and Sherwood Country Club playing a pretty good game of golf and enjoying the friendships of many who grew to love her.
Els is survived by her husband John A. DeWeese, with whom she was married for over 62 years. She was the adored and loving mother of 4 children – Steve, Charlene, Jeff, and Jonny as well as daughter-in-law Gaynor DeWeese, married to Steve, son-in-law Chris Drager married to Charlene, and daughter-in-law Dellene DeWeese. Also 7 grandchildren: Summer DeWeese-Zimpelman, Katie Drager, Chelsea DeWeese, Blake Drager, Dylan DeWeese, Dahlen DeWeese and Carly DeWeese and two great grandchildren Sahara Zimpelman and Alapa’i Drager-Jarrett.
What she did best was to be the loving wife to John. She was always there when he needed her (which was a lot), and caring for and sharing with her children and family. She dearly loved the times when the whole family was together telling stories (sometimes embellished), playing games (which would get pretty wild at times), preparing great dinners, but mainly just being together. She will always be with us.
