Evelyn Jane Colby, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend to all, passed away peacefully on May 1st at 97 years old in Thousand Oaks, California. Evelyn was born in Robinson, North Dakota on May 11, 1927, the youngest of 11 children born to Henry and Rachel Leland. She was a devoted Mother to Janet Hayden, Leland Colby and Glenda McCarthy, and a source of strength and joy for her family and friends.
Evelyn worked as an Elementary School Teacher for 25 years at Glenwood Elementary School. She was known for her kindness and her devotion to her students and their families. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, her many church activities and Sons of Norway.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Glenda McCarthy, her 7 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren (and counting), many nieces and nephews and countless friends. She was predeceased by her Husband, Glenn, her Daughter Janet, her Son, Leland, and her Mom, Dad and siblings.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church located at 29295 Agoura Road in Agoura Hills followed by a luncheon reception.
