Gary Lee Whiddon of Thousand Oaks, California went home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2023 at the age of 70. He was born on July 8, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan where he lived for 23 years before moving to California. Gary was the only child of William and Vera Whiddon.
He graduated from Michigan State University in 1974. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Southern California. He started and grew a successful insurance brokerage, American Alliance Insurance Brokers.
He was actively involved at Calvary Community Church for over 40 years, the table tennis community, North Ranch Golf Club and Moorpark Golf Club. Most importantly, he was the loving husband to Ellen, an active father and “Pops” to four beautiful granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Vera Whiddon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen, two children, Afton and Chase, their spouses, Brian and Kelsey, and his four beautiful granddaughters, Avalon, Lakely, Summer, and Raelyn.
In his spare time, Gary loved to play golf, as well as table tennis, and he was quite successful in the table tennis world, both when he was younger as well as in his last years. Gary had a competitive nature that kept him striving to improve in all areas of his life.
The family would like to thank Dr. Russ Hines, Dr. Vishva Dev, Dr. Alfredo Trento, Cedars Sinai Hospital and Los Robles Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Gary in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Calvary Community Church, located at 5495 Via Rocas Westlake Village, CA 91362, on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10am. All are welcome to celebrate the beautiful life of our dear Gary.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Gary’s honor to the American Heart Association.
Most importantly, we have faith in eternal life after this life on earth. We have hope in God’s Word and in His Promises. We will dearly miss our husband, father, Pops, and friend in this life, but we trust in the hope that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose again, so that we may see him again someday. John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
