Gloria Louise Severs went to be with Our Lord June 13, 2025. At the age of 93, almost 94, Gloria leaves behind her son, Don “Waddie” Severs and daughter, Barbara Anzelon (Anthony), two grandchildren, Paden Severs (Mandy) and Alex Crosier (Aaron Hopper, fiancé), brother Robert Chacon (Rose) and 5 nephews and nieces.
Gloria is pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Donald Carlos Severs. Gloria and Don’s story is a true story of love. She met him on a blind date and the rest was history. The only time they were separated was when he was in the Navy, stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After Don left the Navy, they settled in Cerritos, CA. They then moved to Van Nuys close to where Gloria grew up. They both worked for Radio Plane. They later transferred to Northrup Ventura in 1963. After commuting for a few months, they bought a home in Newbury Park.
Life raising their children was always a family affair. One of the family’s favorite activities was camping and dirt bike riding. They each had their own motorcycle and spent many weekends enjoying time together. If not in the outdoors, Gloria and Don held many family gatherings in their home. When company arrived, the house was immaculate, the food prepared, desserts baked and she was relaxing with a glass of wine.
Gloria eventually left Northrup and took a part-time job at Walnut School, in the Resource room. The part time job allowed her to be near her children and home when they got home. She often spoke fondly of those days.
Gloria was a part of St. Julie Billiart Church for over 50 years. She was a woman of strong faith. She devoted many hours of volunteer work for the parish. Most ministries have been touched by her loving hands. No doubt many parishioners have been recipients of her fabulous baked goods. She was a regular at mass every Sunday and always offering to help. No was not a part of her church vocabulary. After her children left home, she and Don particularly enjoyed short outings together. They would go for Sunday drives and explore local attractions, seek out new restaurants and visit relatives. Mainly they just enjoyed going anywhere as long as they were with each other.
When Don retired, they moved to Bend, Oregon about 1988. They had multiple acres and a nice home. Of course, Gloria signed up for the Altar Society at the local parish. When their daughter, Barbi, gave them the happy news that she was expecting her first child…they pulled up stakes and came back to California. Her love for family was uppermost in her mind. Alex, her granddaughter, was born in 1998. Gloria and Don cared for her until she started school. Gloria was there to pick her up from school from, K-12. She rarely missed a day.
Over the years Gloria showed her love and dedication to her church, her husband and her children. She always offered a hand to anyone in need. She gave unselfishly to everyone that crossed her path. This woman lived out her faith in every aspect of her lie.
