Helyn Athons, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Born in Lebanon, Virginia, in 1934, Helyn lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, inner strength, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. She carried herself with grace and elegance, a reflection of her unique personal style and warm spirit.
Helyn’s family lived in Kingsport, Tennessee, for many years. After meeting her husband, Darryl, in 1984, she relocated to California. Together, they made their home in Thousand Oaks, where Helyn beautifully decorated their house, graciously welcoming and entertaining friends and family.
A devoted wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, Helyn is survived by her loving husband, Darryl Athons; her three brothers, Carroll Cross, Harry Cross, and Roger Cross; her children, Teresa Anders and Mark Dickenson; and her cherished grandchildren, Megan Anders Heath and Matthew Anders. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Vivian Heath, and her great-grandson, Adan Rodriguez. Helyn leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Helyn was deeply involved in her beloved Calvary Community Church. She taught Community Bible Study (CBS) for many years and was an active member of the Women’s Group, Club 31.
A talented watercolor painter, Helyn’s artwork reflected her gentleness and inner beauty. She was also gifted in calligraphy, lovingly creating greeting cards that she sent to family and friends.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered with love.
