

Jack T. Deveau was born on January 8th, 1927 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His father, Clement worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Mescalero Apache reservation with his mother Alma who was a teacher and post mistress for the post office on the reservation. Jack grew up with his best friend Hopkins Smith. After graduation from high school he entered into the army during World War II and was called back to active service during the Korean War as First Lieutenant Infantry Officer. He received the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart medal. Upon completion of his tour duty, he went to Oregon State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Jack began his construction career with Republic Steel Corporation and over the next 45 years he worked for Vinnell Corporation, Haas-Haynie Corporation, Morrison-Knudsen Company, and C.L. Peck Contractor. Jack retired in 1992 as a Senior Vice President for preconstruction services for Peck Jones Construction. His notable projects were the Titan II Missile base, the California Federal Plaza, Mutual Benefit Building, Security Pacific National Bank and the Lloyd Center Tower. His crown jewel project is the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
In 1957 he married his wife Carol in which they were blessed with three sons, Mark, Scott and Darrin. They raised their family in the Thousand Oaks, California. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family camping, barbequing, and surf fishing. In his free time he liked to read novels, take photographs and travel the world. Jack is best known for his wit, storytelling and his knowledge of history, science and math. You can always depend on getting help with your homework. Jack is best remembered for his unwavering honesty, integrity and trustworthiness.
Jack is survived by his wife, Carol of 57 years; son, Mark Deveau (Nancy) of Indian Wells, California and their daughter, Danielle of Newbury Park, California; son, Scott and his son, Kaid of Lake Oswego, Oregon; cousins, Rowena Thiess and Margaret Kay Morgan of St. George, Utah; brother-in-law, Kenneth Woolcock (Monica) of Payson, Arizona, and their son, Joshua of Big Bear, California. He is preceded in death by his youngest son, Darrin.
