Judy was born on August 29 1943 in Oakland, California. She was adopted by Melvin and Ann Sachs. Her adoption was planned and when asked about how old she was when she was adopted she commented “I was expected”. Her mother Ann, known as “Honey”, told Judy how excited her Father was to prepare their home for Judy’s arrival. Judy was a nurse for over ten years and worked at UCLA Medical Center primarily in Newborn and Infant care.
Judy was raised in a Jewish home and dedicated to the Lord by her Father from birth. She remembers always seeking God and finding comfort and peace in his presence all throughout her childhood. In 1964 when she was 21 she sought to understand the absolute truth about Jesus. On her knees in her bedroom she prayed “Father God, you would not have allowed Jesus to make all those claims if he was lying, would you?” She says that instantly all doubt that Jesus was God left her heart.
In 1972 her friend Helga encouraged her to meet with her minister for more discipleship and Judy expressed that she had difficulty with the name of Jesus. She wondered if she could call Jesus “John” or some other name since she had only ever heard the name Jesus used as a common curse word. The minister prayed with her that the name of Jesus would be sweet to her and immediately it was so.
Helga also encouraged her to find a local church and a number of people suggested Church on the Way in the Valley. She began attending services regularly at Church on the Way, saying that it felt like home. For a while she was unable to be water baptised because she was working the night shift as a nurse on weekends and this conflicted with the baptismal schedule at the church. However, on the day she was finally able to schedule it, the woman who had signed up to assist the ladies being baptised was unable to come. Instead, the pastor asked Juliet Bogosian, wife of Philip Bogosian, to fill in as the baptismal assistant. This was the only time Juliet ever assisted with a Baptism and it resulted in a lifelong deep friendship. At the time Philip and Juliet were expecting their 2nd of what would be a family of 10 children. Just as she had been adopted as a baby, Judy “adopted” the Bogosian family as her own. She had always deeply wanted a sister and God had provided one for her in Juliet and a brother in Phil.
Judy was a much beloved Aunt to the 10 Bogosian children. Her love flowed into their lives with boundless generosity and creativity. Her thoughtfulness was endless. She dedicated herself to understanding her nieces and nephews and was always available to help them. Every birthday was met with elaborate cakes she created from scratch that reflected their interests or hobbies. She was an incredible creative, artistic person and showered them with all kinds of gifts that she made herself.
Judy loved knitting, painting, sewing, and scrapbooking. She adored animals, especially dogs.
She was also deeply involved in the ministry of the Global Adopt A People Campaign to spread the Gospel to every people group in the world. She was a faithful prayer warrior, generous giver, and provided support services needed in the United States for the ministry overseas.
For over 10 years Judy was a member of Conejo Koinonia Church in Thousand Oaks. She loved her church family and was blessed by the wonderful and loving community they provided.
In her later years Judy was given a ministry from the Lord of making cards with messages of encouragement. She prayed and asked God for a birthday message for her family members and friends and created beautiful birthday cards for them each year as she was able. She also sought God for a message for Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas that she could put in a card and distribute to her friends, family and Church family each year as she was able.
Memorial Service will be held at a date yet to be determined.
